St. Rafka Senior Club was born and directed by the Holy Spirit after years for waiting for the right opportunity. The long distances slowed that birth. We ask why did the Holy Spirit direct this birth? That is because this idea has been carried and thought of by our priest along with a parishioner who was still in Lebanon.
And so the club movement started. After numerous meetings this past summer, twenty seniors showed up for the first gathering. The goal of the club is to provide an environment for our elders and lonely ones to meet, socialize, and reflect. For those who we thought their role is diminished, this club offers the parish to dicover our wealth of cultural and spiritual history they carry. Without their endurance, dedication and sacrifice we, the parish, will not be where we are today. The church was built on their shoulders throughout our history. So we continue this journey with our elders, with their light and guidance. And the Rafka Senior Club will ensure this continuity.
The following are the club's activities:
| |
1. Readings from the saints life stories. |
| |
2. Sharing small meals. |
| |
3. Socializing and viewing of old movies. |
| |
4. Playing cards and bag gamins |
| |
5. Planning for field trips in the near future. |
The budget for this club is about $50.00 per meeting, excluding the field trips.
